Tuesday afternoon

Didn't get to the woods yesterday, just went to Rye Town Park with the ball launcher- lousy weather (the snow was long gone and it had turned to rain by that point) and I didn't get out of work 'til gone 5.

But we're here today, and it's warmer with breaks of sunshine, 48.5F. They're saying 3-4" of snow tomorrow night, but it'll probably be like yesterday's little burst and melt almost immediately :)

Busy Sunday in the woods!

Lots of people in the woods today. Warmish (47.7F) with a light breeze; it was sunny earlier but the sun seems to have gone into hiding.

The clocks changed last night, so it will stay lighter later which is nice (although T-Mobile doesn't seem to realised it as my phone still says it's 2:47).

Holly didn't get a proper walk yesterday coz of the sewer problems, so today we've done the long, full loop to give her a good run and to let me relax and shed some of the built-up stress from yesterday :)

Spent the morning digging out the church, followed that with a long snowshoe trek through the woods with Holly, now I'm going home to build a fire and sit in front of it and play the chess tournament that Crispy has challenged me to :)

About 4" of snow last night, cold (29.1F) and overcast with occasional bright moments and the odd flurry of tiny snowflakes (or it could just be the snow blowing off the high branches).

Warmer Sunday

Much warmer today (42.0F), and it stayed above freezing all night so we didn't get any of the mess they were threatening, just rain. The snow is much softer today, even on the trails where everyone's feet has packed it down, so I'm back on my snowshoes. Beautiful sunshine and so I'm down to just a T-shirt and still sweating :)

Rainy Saturday

Light Freezing rain falling, 33.2F. But it seems to be just warm enough to soften the ice layer that's covering the snow, so if you stray of the trail where the snow is packed down (as I foolishly did for a half mile section) you break through the ice with every footstep about 8" into a hole with a nice, crusty ice edge. Holly however spread out her paws and happily trotted around me without breaking through- well, I do outweigh her by about 175lbs :)

What I need is for it to snow on Saxon Woods so I can showshoe, but not on Rye "cos the novelty of shovelling has kinda worn off ;)

Icy Thursday

Finally back in the woods after a 2 day gap 'cos of the ice storm we got on Tuesday. It's a fantastic landscape as all the snow is covered by a shiny layer of ice, and there are broken pieces of ice scattered on top (that have fallen from the coating on the trees) that glitter in the sun like diamonds :)

Cold (30.8F) with bright sunshine- v. slippery underfoot, but no problem for those of us with YakTrax!
