Six years!

I realized on the way to the woods today that this is the sixth anniversary of the Sunday between Christmas and New Year's when Holly came into our lives :)

She seems to have finally put her injuries behind her (I quietly brought the tennis ball back out on Christmas Day) and is as dozy and obsessed as ever. I'm very glad she's back to normal and very glad she's part of the family!

Lovely day in the woods- brisk (35F) and breezy, but sunny and bright.

Holly continues to improve, we're back to our usual 4 mile-ish loop and she's running around sniffing and exploring with almost no sign of any lameness. I'm not bringing the tennis ball back though (much to her disgust) until I'm 100% sure she's totally healed. We still don't know exactly what has caused this, but it seems it must be soft tissue, some kind of strain or sprain that just wouldn't heal. The vet recommended a new supplement (Dasuquin) which she's been having for about a week now- I don't know if that's the reason for the continued improvement or if she's just healing anyway, but I'm not going to risk stopping it! It's a supplement not a drug so it's not doing her any harm anyway :)

Still trying the new headphones out, so Google Play on full random, probably back to Westeros tomorrow ;)

Back after a couple of days off... Tuesday we had our staff shopping day at the mall and didn't get back till latish, and it was training like crazy too; then yesterday what with the wiring guys for the new phone system etc the day just got away from me do it was just a leash walk around the block.

Back in the woods , after a day off yesterday while Holly had xrays. $300 to learn absolutely nothing! They x-rayed both legs from shoulder to wrist but could not find anything wrong. Oh well, at least it's good to have any bone chips or spurs ruled out. The vet said there was no sign of arthritis either and so it must be some sort of soft tissue damage, and he's recommended a new joint supplement which I've ordered and hopefully that will help- she's been improving anyway on her own.

After a very busy morning at the church (unloading Christmas trees and all sorts of other little tasks) it's lovely to come out to the woods with my faithful pooch :)

Friday

Spent a happy 4 1/2 hours putting up the Christmas decorations in the Parish Hall, and then rewarded myself by coming out with Holly and doing our full, usual loop.

Holly is doing much better, still limping a bit when she walks, but seems almost back to normal it here in the woods- in fact she's looking at me expectantly now, hoping I'll pull out a tennis ball (sorry, but no tennis ball 'til she's fully healed). I'm not sure if she's healed or just got used to it, but she's going in to the vet on Tuesday to be sedated and x-rayed to see if we can finally find out what's been causing this.

Finally, after 2 1/2 weeks, we are back in the woods.

Holly seems to be responding well to the meds the new very had given her, and it was so nice today I thought I'd risk the short loop. Hopefully she shows no ill effects and we can come back tomorrow- she certainly looks pretty perky right now, and has just brought me a tennis ball she's found and is looking at me expectantly (I will not be throwing it for her!).

They've done lots of work on the trails in our absence- like the approach to the bridge here- will detail more as we reacclimatize ourselves :)

Holly seems be getting more used to her ankle brace, she occasionally looks at it but it seems to make her more comfortable. And when I took it off when we got back from the woods yesterday her limp was, if anything, slightly improved :)
